As an applicant, before you attend any interview, it is expected that you dedicate an hour at the minimum to prepare yourself for the interview if you really want the job. Just like you prepare yourself before going for any examination, same thing is applicable when you have an interview to attend. It’s quite unfortunate that some applicants don’t have this information at their disposal. However, now that you are aware that you need to prepare, how do you prepare yourself? First, you need to re-read and analyze the job description of the role you applied for. This would help you tailor your answers to the most important aspect of the job. Second, ensure you take note of vital information on your CV/Resume, especially your work experience, achievements and skills as these are your selling points to the interviewer. In addition to this, don’t forget to do a research on the company. Look into their history, the services/products they render or provide.
- Dress professionally
Some applicants fail to realize that dressing is important in any interview conducted. Some feel they could dress shabbily to interview since it’s not a big firm. There is an age long adage that says” you are address the way you appear” So, if you really want that job, then you must dress professionally. For the ladies, you can be on suite gown, skirt/trouser or corporate shirt/blouse on a skirt as the case may be while the guys must ensure they dress on suite alongside their tie.

Punctuality is very important in interview. Some applicants have this perception that interview may not commenced at the exact time given due to their past experience, hence they form an habit of being late so that they don’t end up waiting for a long period before being attended to. It is expected you arrived the venue of the interview before time. This will help you to be relaxed and composed. There was an interview that was conducted for a client, one of the applicants arrived very early that the MD of the company was surprised. He was desperate at that moment and needed the job badly. However, he was not considered for the role. In fact the offer was given to one of the applicants that demanded for a higher pay. The other applicant was able to sell himself and even when his price tag was high, the company still went for him, unlike the other applicant who was rejected despite the low price tag. It’s best you display your interest in the role and passion for the work and beneficial it would be to the organization if you are considered. That is your selling point.
